As the state’s only Five-Time Builder of the Year, John Kraemer & Sons has been building luxury homes and remodeling fine residences since 1978. Founded by current President Gary Kraemer and his late father John, our firm focuses on luxury residential projects of all shapes, sizes, and styles.
We specialize in everything from large estate home construction, to empty-nest homes, to lake cabins, and major renovations. With two of Gary’s sons, John and Jeff, in the business, the firm is now a third-generation company and will be around long into the future to build, remodel and most importantly, service our clients’ homes and stand behind our work.
Our staff is committed to making every building or renovation project exceptional, from the moment we meet until long after we hand over the keys. The Kraemers (John, Gary and Jeff) are personally involved in every project. We listen closely to each client and build a home that clearly reflects their lifestyle and personality.
John Kraemer & Sons is unique in the fact that we employ all our own job superintendents, project managers, and several finish carpenters. Each client is assigned a job superintendent who will be on-site each day until their home is completed. This personal relationship is the foundation of each John Kraemer & Sons project, and sets us apart from most builders whose superintendents manage many projects at a time. We have the horsepower to get projects completed for our clients on time, on budget, with exceptionally high quality.
Each one of our projects is managed on a 100% open book basis, where every bid, invoice, and receipt is available for client review at any time. We believe that full transparency is the best policy. We have offices in Edina and Wayzata, MN, and also have an extensive list of loyal clients and customer testimonials we’d be happy to share with you.

Gary Kraemer - Founder/Chairman
Gary Kraemer and his father John started the company in 1978. Gary has worked in every aspect of the company from laborer to carpenter, to his current role as Chairman of the Board. He has over 40 years of experience in the construction business. Gary is committed to providing the finest quality, craftsmanship, and customer service that his clients deserve. He strives to go above and beyond all expectations to make sure that all of his clients’ needs are completely fulfilled.
In 2023 Gary earned his fifth Builder of the Year Award from Housing First MN. This honor is in recognition of trust, communication, loyalty, ethics, and customer satisfaction. This is the most coveted distinction a member of the association can receive.
Gary is one of the select group of professional builders who have earned the Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) designation, identifying him as one of the building industry’s top professionals. The CGB is an exclusive designation, emphasizing expertise in several areas key to home building and business management. This designation requires several hours of course study and must be renewed every three years. Only one other builder in the State of Minnesota, and only 517 builders nationwide have earned this designation. Gary’s experience and knowledge truly set him apart in our industry. He is also a Certified Green Professional (CGP).
Gary is the proud father of three sons – John, Jeff, and Evan, and Grandfather of five. Gary is also very involved in his community. He has served on the boards of several charitable foundations and was a youth baseball coach for 24 years.
John Kraemer - President
John and his brother Jeff represent the third generation of builders at John Kraemer and Sons. Named after his grandfather, John has been interested and involved in the family business since he was a child.
John is a tremendous advocate for our clients and works closely with all of them to ensure that John Kraemer & Sons not only satisfies, but exceeds their expectations. Like his namesake, John thrives on working with people to bring their dreams to reality.
John graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN where he studied business and communication. He also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. John, his wife Lauren, their daughter Mallory, and son Samuel currently reside in Edina. John is very active in the community and is currently serving as Builder Vice President of Housing First MN.
John’s presence ensures that John Kraemer & Sons’ rich history of building and servicing the highest quality custom homes will live on into the future.
Jeff Kraemer - President of Operations
Jeff is a great advocate for our clients and is always working tirelessly to make sure that all of our customers are more than satisfied with their experience with John Kraemer and Sons.
Jeff has always been interested in the family business, which inspired him to go to college and earn his degree in construction management. Jeff graduated Cum Laude from Minnesota State University – Mankato with a degree in Construction Management and immediately joined the family business upon graduation.
Jeff, his wife Megan, their daughter Brynn, and son Camden currently reside in Chanhassen.
Jeff’s presence ensures that John Kraemer and Sons reputation of building and servicing the finest homes in the state of Minnesota will continue on into the future.
